Q:
The stage of mitosis during which the chromosomes are most condensed is called:
A | interphase. | |
B | prophase. | |
C | metaphase. | |
D | anaphase. |
I don’t like this question because it’s hard to define “condensed” for the chromosomes and in the context of mitosis. My first instinct is to pick prophase, which is the phase that chromatins condense into chromosomes. They say that the correct answer choice should be D, anaphase, because that’s when twin chromosomes split and migrate, but wouldn’t the splitting decrease density of the chromosomes? If they are talking about when the chromosomes line up prior to splitting, isn’t that metaphase?
